CONSTITUTIONAL LAW
Yale College ★ PLSC 233 ★ Fall 2018
Teaching Fellow ★ Professor Akhil Reed Amar
Taught 20 Yale College students the substance and method of constitutional law (similar iN breadth and depth to a law school class). Taught the art and science of constitutional argument, through both doctrine and deeper principles from text, history, structure, and ethos. TauGht individual cases thoroughly—reading closely with attention to the modalities of constitutional interpretation. Tied each case to larger trends and themes, teaching students to distill relevant principles from cases, situate them in their factual contexts, and critique them in legally sound ways. Taught works from the scholarly canon (Amar, Bobbitt, Ely, Rubenfeld, Strauss). Taught students both to parse the Constitution's text and to derive unwritten law with discipline. Met weekly with Professor Amar in his Constitutional Pedagogy seminar.

Akhil Sud is the best TF I have had in my time at Yale. He cares very deeply about ensuring not only his students' understanding of the course material but their engagement and enjoyment of the course itself. He is an incredibly effective teacher, explains complex subject matter very clearly, and goes above and beyond his duty as a TA by meeting with students outside of class, providing detailed instruction and clear feedback on exams, and review sessions to clarify any confusion. BEST TF. If there was a score beyond 'excellent' I would use that.
Akhil is the greatest TF I have ever had. He knows his stuff very well. He prepares incredible for section. He is compassionate and kind. He is clear. He is organized. He is the type ofTA who will sit with you in Starbucks until he and you are both sure you are comfortable with the material. He brings an energy to section that makes everyone more comfortable participating and he gives incredible feedback on papers and exams. Akhil is the best.
Akhil was amazing. he brought snacks to very section. he played con law games with us. I've never seen a TA care so much about his students.
Akhil was the best!! So so helpful, available to his students, wants to see you learn a lot and succeed. He put so much time and thought into planning each section - each section was basically another class in which he explained the material to us and made a lot of complicated concepts easily digestible. He made beautiful color-coded handouts to help us understand the cases and concepts. He brought us food every week. He designed review games. His fashion choices were dependably bold and predictably unpredictable. He's so organized and holds us to a high standard but is also extremely understanding and laid back.
Akhil Sud is probably the best instructor I've had at Yale. He is not only a compelling and clear teacher, but he cares about students actually understanding the material -- not just learning it for the length of the course. He helped me think about why con law actually matters and helped me see the cases in meaningful ways. He goes above and beyond -- he held an extra review session for us, made comprehensive handouts, presents different points of view, and has met with me countless time for office hours to help me really digest the material.
Best TA at Yale. Puts so much time and effort into making sure the students understand the course material. Just wow, wish all TAs were like him
Akhil was an absolutely brilliant TF. The best in my undergraduate experience. He was thoroughly joyous and delighted to teach us. He went above and beyond with his time the entire semester, giving us hours and hours of additional support. His theoretical knowledge and preparation for the subject were rock solid. Could not have been better.
He is the most amazing TA i think in the entire world. He somehow pulled off making Con Law easy to understand for everyone in the section. He was not only passionate about the topic, but insanely dedicated to helping us. I cant wait until he's a supreme court justice.
Akhil truly inspires his students and nurtures our potential through unwavering, deep caring about our learning and growth. Akhil's commitment to his students is truly second to none. He is a sterling teacher, and you should absolutely take advantage of any opportunity you have to learn from him.
Akhil was by far the best TF I have had at Yale. He understands the material excellently and is amazing at explaining it. He goes above and beyond to ensure that everyone in his section understands the material well.
Absolutely wonderful TF. Highly recommend. Great teacher, very approachable, very helpful with everything.
Amazing TF! Saved me !
Akhil is by far the best TF I have ever had at Yale. He went far beyond what could possibly be expected of a TF and I genuinely learnt more in his section than I did in lecture. His feedback was fantastic and his ability to facilitate useful discussion in class was invaluable. I would not have had the same experience of this class if it wasn't for Akhil and his guidance has inspired me to look into Law School with greater interest. If there was an extra overall assessment option greater than excellent (phenomenal perhaps) I would absolutely select it.
Akhil almost single-handedly defined this course for me. I've had many TAs in my four years at Yale, but few, if any, matched Akhil's knowledge and passion. He was generous with his time, incisive with his explanations, and invested in making section memorable rather than procedural. His approach paid dividends. Pretty much everyone in my section loved Akhil, and more than a few vocally expressed that. It's rare in my experience to see students so excited about a TA and section, and I think that testifies to Ahkil's success as a teacher and impact as a person.
